1. What is Vizread?
Vizread, LLC (collectively with any subsidiaries, “Vizread”, “we”, or “us”) is dedicated to making reading fun, engaging and rewarding. We want all children – children who speak English as a second language, children who are struggling to read or have learning difficulties, and even children who read well but want to improve – to have access to the tools they need to succeed. Through our App WhizRead and by providing interactive, multi-sensory tools that use Natural Language Processing techniques, we help young learners become more confident, independent readers and learners.
We at Vizread have created this Privacy Policy to describe our practices regarding information we collect through our web sites, including www.whizread.com, mobile features, applications (including WhizRead) and any other interactive features or services owned or controlled by Vizread that post a link to this Privacy Policy (each, a “Service” and collectively, the “Services”), as well as any information we collect offline and combine in our databases. Certain features discussed in this Privacy Policy may not be offered on each Service at any particular time. Note that we combine the information we collect from you through all of our websites, mobile applications, and other Services.
Note about Children: Vizread only collects personal information from children under the age of 13 after it has received verifiable parental consent. Upon initiating the process of registering an account with Vizread after such verifiable parental consent has been received by Vizread, children will be able to use the WhizRead App and continue with their reading comprehension activities.

We may combine the information we receive from those other sources with information we collect through the Services. In those cases, we will apply this Privacy Policy to the combined information.

The referred person may contact us via email by clicking here to request that we remove this information from our active database.
If you purchase a gift certificate for another person, we will ask you for that person’s name and email address, as well as for an optional personal message. We will automatically send your friend a one-time email including an invitation to visit the Services as well as their gift code. Vizread stores information such as the gift certificate recipient’s name and email address for the sole purpose of verification. Vizread does not sell or disclose any of this information to any outside sources or parties and collects this information only to maintain records that a gift certificate was purchased and sent to a recipient. Our Services utilize Cookies to improve your current and future experience by allowing us to understand your usage of our Services. For example, cookies help our systems recognize you if you return to our Services shortly after exiting them. Cookies are small text files stored on your computer that allow us to personalize the content of our Services. Cookies can be turned off via your browser settings if you so choose. - Web Beacons: We, as well as our affiliate program partners, service providers, and other third parties, may employ a software technology called clear gifs (a.k.a. web beacons/web bugs), that help us better manage content on our Services by informing us of what content is effective. Clear gifs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies, and are used to track the online movements of web users for our affiliate program. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on a user’s computer hard drive, clear gifs are embedded invisibly on web pages and are about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. This information is used to help improve the overall quality and experience of our Services. We tie the information gathered by clear gifs to our customers’ Personal Information.
- An Embedded Script: is programming code that is designed to collect information about your interactions with the Services, such as the links you click on. The code is temporarily downloaded onto your computer or other device from our server or a third party service provider and is deactivated or deleted when you disconnect from the Services.
In addition, we may use a variety of other technologies that collect similar information for security and fraud detection purposes.
How We Respond To Do Not Track Signals:
Please note that your browser setting may allow you to automatically transmit a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal to websites and online service you visit. DNT is a privacy preference that users can set in certain web browsers to inform websites and services that they do not want certain information about their webpage visits collected over time and across websites or online services. However, we do not recognize or respond to browser-initiated DNT signals, as the internet industry is still working to determine what DNT means, how to comply with DNT, and how to create a common approach to responding to DNT. To find out more about “Do Not Track”, please visit http://www.allaboutdnt.com.

Third Party Analytics Providers
We may work with analytics service providers and other vendors to provide us with information regarding traffic on the Services, including the pages viewed and the actions users take when visiting the Services; to serve our advertisements on other websites, within mobile apps, and elsewhere online; and to provide us with information regarding the use of the Services and the effectiveness of our advertisements. The advertisements you see may be served by one or more third parties, who may use information collected over time about your activities on the Services, and other websites and services, to provide you targeted advertising based upon your interests.
Some of the companies who serve these targeted ads participate in a self-regulatory program that allows you to opt-out of having information about you used for this purpose, and you may access that opt-out by clicking here. Please note this does not opt you out of being served advertising. You will continue to receive generic ads while using the Services and elsewhere online. We may share Usage Information about visitors with third party advertising companies, analytics providers and other vendors. Our ad network providers, the advertisers, ad agencies, analytics service providers and other vendors may set and access their own tracking devices (including cookies and web beacons) and they may otherwise collect or have access to information about you and your online browsing activities. Some of these third parties may collect Personal Information over time when you visit the Services or other web sites and services.
Third Party Content, Links to Other Sites, and Vizread Content Found Outside of the Services
Certain content provided through the Services may be hosted and served by third parties, which may include third party widgets (such as those that allow you to “like” or “share” content with third party web sites and online services. In addition, the Services may link to third party web sites or content over which Vizread has no control and which are governed by the privacy policies and business practices of those third parties. In addition, third-party partners of Vizread from whom your order through the Services may have different privacy policies which apply to such partners use of your information.
Please also note that Vizread content and widgets may be included on web pages and web sites that are not associated with us and over which we have no control. These third parties may independently collect data. Vizread is not responsible or liable for the privacy practices or business practices of any third party.
7. What happens if I access Vizread’s services through a mobile device?
If you use the Services through a mobile device or one of our mobile applications, your mobile Device Identifier or your mobile carrier may be transmitted to Vizread,. You agree that Vizread may store and use that information for security purposes (for example, for user verification or authentication and to ensure that our APIs are being used appropriately). If you wish to no longer allow Vizread to track your physical locations you may turn this off within your device settings. You may be able to opt-in to receiving text messages from Vizread. You may always opt-out by replying “STOP” to one of the text messages received. You also acknowledge and agree that use of the Services through a mobile device may cause data to be displayed on and through your mobile device which may be viewed by your mobile carrier or other access provider.
Push Notification: We will send you push notifications if you agree to receive them. You may opt-out of receiving these at any time by going to the phone settings and turning them off.
8. How does Vizread protect children’s information?
Protecting the privacy of young children is especially important to Vizread. For that reason, we created certain features designed to help protect Personal Information relating to children who are less than 13 years of age (“Child Users”). Vizread does not knowingly permit Child Users to register directly for our Services. If Vizread learns that Personal Information of a Child user has been collected on our Services without parental consent, then Vizread will take appropriate steps to delete this information. If you are a parent or guardian (“Parent”) and discover that your child under the age of 13 has a registered account with our Services without your consent, please alert Vizread at admin@vizread.com and request that we delete that child’s personal information from our systems.
How does a child register and use the services?
Child Users cannot register for a Vizread account themselves. If a Child User attempts to register for our Services, Vizread will request that the Child User contact his or her parent for access to the App. No information about Child Users is retained during their registration attempt.
If you are a Parent, you may provide consent for your child’s registration by first registering yourself on our Services. Once registered, you can create an account for your Child User, monitor the data on your Child User’s account, or revoke your Child User’s permission to use the Services by deleting the account.
Alternatively, your child may be registered to use the Services through his or her school, or through an integration with the Services that is supported by school personnel who have taken steps necessary to comply with applicable law, including COPPA. Parents always have the option to delete their Child User’s account.
What children’s information is visible to others?
No student’s profile is made available or visible to the public through Vizread. If school personnel utilize features including creating Child User profiles, creating and establishing classes and adding Child User profiles to such classes, creating User Content and publishing such content to his or her students including Child Users through Vizread’s App on a device in the classroom, other students in the class can view this User Content in this same Vizread App on this shared device, but students can’t view each other’s individual student profiles or other personal information. Please note that if the teacher chooses to display Vizread in their classroom, which is not a direct feature of Vizread (i.e., through utilizing non-Vizread resources, such as projecting via a smartboard or interactive whiteboard), students physically present in that classroom may see personal information about other students such as students’ names, avatars (which can be the default avatars, or avatars modified by students) and student performance. Teachers can of course choose not to display Vizread Service this way, for example by using the Vizread App on their mobile devices.
Parents will be able to view their own child’s information as a part of Vizread’s services.
9. How does Vizread protect and store my information?
Vizread takes data security very seriously. Vizread takes commercially reasonable technical, physical, and administrative security measures to protect the Personal Information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. Such measures vary depending on the sensitivity of the information at issue. Measures taken to protect your data include:
- We periodically review our information collection, storage and processing practices, including physical security measures, to guard against unauthorized access to systems
- We continually develop and implement features to keep your personal information safe – for example, when you enter any information anywhere on the Service, we encrypt the transmission of that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL/TLS) by default
- All data is encrypted via SSL/TLS when transmitted from our servers to the app. Our software infrastructure is updated regularly with the latest security patches. Our products run on a dedicated network which is locked down with firewalls and carefully monitored.
- We ensure passwords are stored and transferred securely using encryption and salted hashing. Passwords are also encrypted when they are stored.
- We delete inactive student accounts after a specific period of time, as per our retention policy, described in the “How long does Vizread keep children’s information?” section
- All Vizread personnel are trained in security practices and procedures designed to keep Your Data under strict internal controls.
- Developers peer-review code to make sure changes adhere to best practices for security.
- Administrators are knowledgeable of security practices and harden the infrastructure with necessary patches, monitor security resources for advisories and vulnerabilities, and scan the environment and application to ensure that student information remains secure. Please note that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially reasonable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
How will Vizread handle a data breach or security incident?
In the event that Vizread becomes aware of a data breach impacting your Personal Information, we will provide notification in compliance with all applicable laws. For example, we may post a notice on our homepage (www.whizread.com) or elsewhere on the Service, and may send email to you at the email address you have provided to us. Depending on where you live, you may have a legal right to receive notice of a security breach in writing.
Vizread has procedures in place that are designed to stop threats that may expose personally identifiable information, restore Services to full functionality, document and take proactive steps to ensure the incident cannot be repeated. Vizread will also preserve necessary evidence for investigation by security professionals and law enforcement as appropriate. In the unlikely event of an unauthorized disclosure of records, Vizread will follow its Security Incident Response Procedure, which articulates how to report the problem to internal and external stakeholders. The notification process includes any information that can identify which customers and students may have been impacted, the data that may have been accessed, Vizread’s process to inform affected customers, and steps to prevent the incident from happening again as appropriate.

16. What are specifications for California?
Pursuant to California Civil Code Section 1798.83, residents of the State of California have the right to request from companies conducting business in California a list of all third parties to which the company has disclosed certain categories of personal information during the preceding year for the third parties’ direct marketing purposes and the categories of personal information the company shares.
Alternatively, the law provides that a company that has a privacy policy that provides consumers choice (opt-out or opt-in) regarding sharing personal information with third parties for those third parties’ direct marketing purposes may instead provide information on how to exercise that choice. Vizread qualifies for the alternative option; it has a comprehensive privacy policy that sets forth that Vizread provides you choice prior to sharing your personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. If you do not opt-in or if you choose to opt-out at the time Vizread offers that choice, Vizread does not share your information with that identified third party for its direct marketing purposes.
If you are a California resident and you have questions about our practices with respect to sharing information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes and your ability to exercise choice, please send your request via email at info@whizread,com or write to us at the following mailing address: 20125 Winn Road, Saratoga, CA 95070. You must put the statement “Your California Privacy Rights” in the subject field of your e-mail or include it in your writing if you choose to write to us at the designated mailing address. You must include your name, street address, city, state, and zip code. We are not responsible for notices that are not labeled or sent properly, or do not have complete information.
17. What if I am not in the U.S.?

By using the Services, or providing us with any information, you fully understand and unambiguously consent to this transfer, processing and storage of your information in the United States, a jurisdiction in which the privacy laws may not be as comprehensive as those in the country where you reside and/or are a citizen.
